Based on open global standards for both RF interface and cryptographic methods, our MIFARE DESFire product family provides highly secure microcontroller-based ICs. Its name DESFire references the use of DES, 2K3DES, 3K3DES, and AES hardware cryptographic engines for securing transmission data.
This family includes MIFARE DESFire EV1, MIFARE DESFire EV2 and MIFARE DESFire Light products. They’re ideally suited for solution developers and system operators building reliable, interoperable, and scalable contactless smart card solutions. MIFARE DESFire products enable multiapplication smart card solutions for identity, access control, loyalty, and micropayment applications, as well as in transport schemes.
NXP’s MIFARE DESFire Light is a contactless IC designed for easy integration into new and existing systems. Its predefined file system and total available memory of 640 Bytes (equivalent to MIFARE Classic® with 1 kB) make it an excellent choice for single-application designs in a wide variety of use cases. MIFARE DESFire Light is compatible with MIFARE® DESFire® EV2, so designers can easily expand their systems to support new applications. Compatibility with MIFARE DESFire EV2 also lets developers promote their services on NXP´s AppXplorer, a collaboration platform that creates an App Store-like experience on smart cards.
MIFARE DESFire Light can also be configured as an NFC Forum NFC Type Tag 4, so it’s ready to use with the broadest range of mobile devices equipped with contactless reading capabilities.
Designed for limited-and extended-use applications, MIFARE DESFire Light includes the appropriate protection mechanisms to power trusted services. Depending on the use case, up to five AES 128-bit keys can be used to manage access rights, while the secure messaging option enhances the protection of data and privacy. All of the chip’s hardware and software security features have been externally reviewed, tested, and certified according to Common Criteria EAL4.
MIFARE® DESFire® EV2
MIFARE DESFire EV2 (MF3D(H)x2) is the latest addition to the MIFARE DESFire product family introducing new features along with enhanced performance for best user experience. The MIFARE DESFire EV2 is Common Criteria EAL5+ security certified which is the same security certification level as demand for smart card IC products used, e.g., for banking cards or electronic passports. It fully complies with the requirements for fast and highly secure data transmission and flexible application management.
MIFARE DESFire EV2 offers flexibility when creating multiapplication schemes and features such as MIsmartApp with multiple key sets and Transaction MAC are supporting new business models. Smart Cities services, for example, could be used with only one MIFARE DESFire EV2 card by combining services such as public transport, car or bike-sharing, access to city attractions with citizen services, closed-loop e-payment applications, and local loyalty programs.

It is compliant to all levels of ISO/IEC 14443A and supports optional ISO/IEC 7816-4 commands (APDU and file structure supported) and is fully interoperable with existing NFC reader infrastructure.

It fully complies with the requirements for fast and highly secure data transmission, flexible memory organization, and interoperability with existing infrastructure.
MIFARE DESFire EV1 is based on open global standards for both air interface and cryptographic methods. It is compliant to all 4 levels of ISO/IEC 14443A and uses optional ISO/IEC 7816-4 commands.

MIFARE DESFire EV1 256B (MF3ICD(H)Q1), is the future proof entry level product of the well-established MIFARE DESFire family and is addressing applications with low memory but high security and data integrity needs.
The MIFARE DESFire EV1 256B offers the same security and file creation features as the higher memory family members (Ref. 1), but the number of applications and related files on this product is limited due to its small memory plot.
This addresses the needs of account based systems and environments requiring only a limited set of applications.
These applications include but are not limited to access management, public transport ticketing, loyalty schemes, and closed-loop payment.
It is fully compatible to all other members of the MIFARE DESFire EV1 family, offering the same fast and highly secure data transmission, and is fully interoperable with existing MIFARE DESFire infrastructure.
